FALL 2014 TRENDS
Some people like constant sunshine and one-season living, but personally I love the excitement that comes along with the changing of seasons and all the stylish looks that arrive with them. Who wants static? Change is good-and can look fantastic too.
At the foundation of any well-edited wardrobe is a solid selection of simple, sophisticated pieces you can throw on that make you look instantly put together. For fall this means sumptuous knits & shift dresses, leather jackets for layering up, and shoes that go with it all.
All shades of falls favorite new neutral. Gray is the season’s grounding color-a starting point, an essential, eternally sophisticated. It’s the new neutral and plays back to everything else. Our favorite shades? We can’t pick! Pearl, dove, smoke, slate, charcoal, graphite and flannel. This seasons star neutral comes in 50 shades. Shoes and handbags are ultra-elegant in these shades, or try the seasons new grays in a smoky eye palette.
Wrap yourself in the seasons most luxurious offerings. Call it ” The Weather Effect.” Designers reacted to a global cold snap this season, and their offerings were some of the most luxurious, warm, and cozy clothing we’ve ever seen. Cashmere, angora, and double-face wool are the fabrics of choice for quietly chic comfort and warmth. Exciting outerwear was everywhere: the wrap coat, blanket coat, cape coat and robe coat were key to every collection. Knits were actually game changing – cowl necks, turtlenecks, rib knits, fishermans; the novelty factor is way up. Try the “it” silhouette of the season: tunic shape knits worn over longer soft skirts. Warm never looked so cool!
THE FURRY COAT
Fall is always the season for the best novelty textures. In a sea of outerwear options, Shearling is the undisputed star! Clipped, sheared, ultra-curly and dyed in an abundance of colors and patterns is extra appealing. Fluffy fox makes a voluminous statement! Luxe mink makes a strong runway comeback and is modernized in sheered patchwork coats, pullovers and on touchable handbags. Astrakhan remains a textural classic. Needless to say the trend is one you can invest in for seasons to come.
OVER-THE-KNEE/THE TALL BOOT
Boots are on the up, empowering everything from lean pants to high-slit midis. Suddenly, you stand taller and stride more confidently. Whether to the knee or above it, high-shaft boots paired with a longer skirt is the new uniform for Fall. No fall wardrobe is complete without a pair of black knee-high boots. The new parameters:block-geeked,square-toes, and slim.
Clean lined cuts look casual and modern in ultra-luxe fabrics. Everything’s polished yet spare. And the coats : gorgeously oversized-all the better for layering.
Everything’s coming up rich and romantic for fall. Prints go painterly with 3-D, digitized for abstract blooms. Even where the flowers are placed is inspired-and flattering.
THE CAMEL COAT
What’s not to love? The perennial favorite screams sophistication, and this season it comes in calf-grazing, ladylike lengths. Tip: Add a belt-maybe even a fuzzy one-in a variation of the hue.
